The Fiji Performing Rights Association (FIPRA) is asking the public and media to show compassion and respect after footage of a personal and vulnerable moment at the 2026 FIPRA Music Awards was circulated. The awards were held at the Grand Pacific Hotel in Suva on 24 September.
“Out of respect for the individual’s privacy and dignity, we will not discuss the circumstances in detail,” said FIPRA Chairman, Mr. Isireli Gumatua. “We ask those who have received the footage not to share or repost it, and those who have published it to consider removing it. We also appeal to the public to avoid speculation, ridicule and hurtful commentary.”
“A person’s vulnerable moment should never become a source of entertainment. We may not know what someone is going through, but we can choose to respond with kindness and protect their dignity.”
FIPRA is rooted in a love for music and the people who create it. Music brings us together, gives expression to our struggles and joys, and reminds us of our shared humanity. The compassion we celebrate through music should also guide how we treat one another.
FIPRA thanks the artists, songwriters, musicians, guests and supporters who came together to celebrate Fiji’s musical talent, and asks that the conversation going forward reflect that same spirit of unity, compassion and respect.
