Today, 23 June 2026, we proudly celebrate 34 years of the Fiji Performing Rights Association (FIPRA), a milestone that reflects our enduring commitment to protecting the rights of music creators and strengthening Fiji’s creative industry.
Since its establishment in 1992 and subsequent development as Fiji’s collective management organization for music rights, FIPRA has played a vital role in ensuring that composers, songwriters, lyricists and music publishers are fairly rewarded whenever their music is performed, broadcast or communicated to the public. Through reciprocal agreements with APRA, FIPRA also represents millions of creators from around the world while safeguarding the interests of local artists.
Over the past three decades, FIPRA has grown from a pioneering vision of local composers wanting to manage and protect their own creative works into one of the South Pacific’s leading music rights organizations. Through licensing, royalty collection and distribution, FIPRA has helped create a sustainable framework that recognizes music as valuable intellectual property and ensures creators receive compensation for the use of their work.
The impact of FIPRA can be seen in the many artists, songwriters and composers whose creativity has been rewarded through royalty payments generated from the use of their music by broadcasters, businesses, event organizers, hotels, restaurants and other commercial users. These royalties provide an important source of income that allows creators to continue producing the music that enriches our communities and preserves our cultural identity.
Beyond rights management, FIPRA has also championed the recognition and celebration of musical excellence through the FIPRA Music Awards. The awards have become a prestigious platform that honors outstanding achievements in Fijian and Pacific music while inspiring future generations of artists to pursue their craft with confidence and pride.
As the music industry continues to evolve through digital platforms, streaming services and new technologies, FIPRA remains committed to adapting and ensuring that creators are protected in an ever-changing landscape.
